The best time to visit Syria: a season-by-season guide

Green spring countryside in Syria

Syria changes a lot with the seasons. The same valley can be bright green in April and golden in October, and a city that feels gentle in spring can be very hot by July. Here is how we think about timing when we plan a journey.

Spring (March to May)

For many travellers this is the best season. Days are mild, the countryside is green, and walking is comfortable almost everywhere. It is the right time for village routes, gentle trails, and long days in the old cities.

Good for: The Spring Journey, History of Syria.

Summer (June to August)

Inland cities and the desert get very hot, so we plan summer around the coast and the mountains, where the air is fresher and evenings are long. Activity happens in the morning and evening, with an easy middle of the day.

Good for: The Summer Journey, Coastal Mountains Hike & Camp.

Autumn (September to November)

Autumn brings warm days, cooler nights, and harvest season. It is excellent for both hiking and city journeys, and a good time to combine heritage with the coast.

Good for: Coastal Mountains Hike & Camp, History of Syria.

Winter (December to February)

Winter is cold and can be rainy, with snow in the mountains. Cities are quieter, and it can be a lovely time for slow cultural days with warm food and long conversations. Camping and long hikes are not a good fit.

Good for: a tailor-made city journey.
