Why go
Trade, stone and one of the region’s great kitchens.
For centuries Aleppo sat at the end of the Silk Road. Its citadel rises above an old city of covered markets, caravanserais and mosques.
Much of the old city was damaged in the war and is being restored. We visit with local guides who show both what was lost and what is coming back, and we eat very well along the way.
Highlights
- The Citadel of Aleppo
- The covered souqs of the old city
- The Great Mosque of Aleppo
- Old khans and stone houses
- Aleppine food: kebab with cherries, muhammara and more
