Hiking in Syria's coastal mountains

The Coastal Mountains

Forests, high villages and trails above the sea. Where many of our adventure journeys begin.

Region

Mountains east of Latakia and Tartus

Best time

April–November

Time needed

2–4 days

From Latakia

About 1 hour by road

Why go

Our favourite place to walk.

The mountains above the coast are green for most of the year, with pine and oak forests, springs, small villages and views down to the Mediterranean.

This is where we hike, camp and spend nights by the fire. Trails range from easy village walks to full days on the ridges.

Highlights

  • Hiking around Slunfeh and the ridges
  • The Frunloq forest
  • Kassab and the northern hills
  • Camping under the stars
  • Village food and mountain springs
